CW75 stock performance.(Statistical table)

The CW75 Index continued its volatile movement, finishing up 3.4% for the week ending September 18, in line with the Standard & Poor's 500 and outpacing the Morgan Stanley global composite index. The stock market responded favorably to news that the U.S. Federal Reserve cut the interest rate by a half percentage point, to 4.74%, on September 18.

The stock market fell earlier in the week because of uncertainty about whether the Fed would cut the interest rate and by how much, analysts say. Higher oil prices also weighed down on stocks, particularly basic chemical shares, analysts say.

Basic chemical stocks rose about 1%, diversified chemical shares increased 4.2%, and specialty chemical stocks improved 3.2%.

Shares of 57 companies gained for the week, while 16 declined. Huntsman and Lyondell Chemical finished flat for the week.
