Fit for the future

Honda will introduce the next-generation Fit at the upcoming Tokyo motor show and bring the all-new minicar to the United States next fall as a 2009 model. Reports from Japan say the Fit gets a roomier cabin, a longer wheelbase and track, an exterior makeover and better ride and handling. The stateside version also gets a more powerful 1.5-liter, 118-hp, 107-lb-ft four-cylinder engine.

Porsche fueling

In an effort to meet tougher European emissions standards coming in 2009, Porsche is planning the biggest overhaul of its iconic six-cylinder boxer engine since switching to water cooling back in 1996. The revised powerplant, which will appear in lightly facelifted versions of the Boxster, the Cayman and the 911 in 2008, adopts a high-pressure direct-injection system developed in partnership with Bosch.
