03 OCTOBER 2007 SOUTHHAMPTON (Pacnews) -----New Zealand's immigration policies leave it well-placed to take in people from Pacific islands who could be flooded out by rising sea levels caused by climate change, Prime Minister Helen Clark says, Stuff NZ reports.

Miss Clark told a question and answer session at Southampton University early this morning (NZ time) that policies which allow many island state nationals to live and work in New Zealand could be easily adapted if sea levels rose as the earth became warmer.

I think we're kind of set up for, if the worst happens with these low-lying countries, to be able to adapt immigration policies we've had to meet…
