Oct. 2--Greg Gregory selected Tampa as his family's 2005 spring-break destination primarily to please his daughter, Layne, a New York Yankees fan. She could watch them play exhibition games.

Gregory at the time was an Ohio-based pharmaceuticals salesman following more than two decades as a college football coach. While in Tampa, the Lee-Davis High and University of Richmond graduate visited the University of South Florida's spring practice and Bulls coach Jim Leavitt.

"Wasn't really looking for a job," Gregory said. "And they didn't have anything open."
