Sep. 29--PALM BEACH GARDENS -- Shoppers wanting to grab Oreo cookies and takeout with their organic groceries could hit the jackpot when Publix Super Markets launches its latest venture in Tampa next year.
The first of six GreenWise Markets opened Thursday in Palm Beach Gardens, introducing Publix's new hybrid: part traditional supermarket, part natural and organic grocer, and part restaurant-quality prepared foods department.
A Tampa GreenWise Market, expected to open in late 2008, will be similar and cater to healthy food buyers, gourmets and conventional grocery shoppers, company spokeswoman Maria Brous said.
"We know it's not a cookie-cutter," she said. "We're catering to two different spectrums and we're bringing it together."
