Sep. 23--There were no special titles for Billingsville Elementary School this year -- no "Honor School of Excellence" or "School of Distinction" title.
Instead, the school's staff and students will have to settle for plenty of praise.
"What Billingsville has accomplished is remarkable," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Peter Gorman said earlier this month, after the release of state ABC test scores from last spring showed 50.8 percent of the school's students scored at or above grade level.
That is an increase from 39.3 percent the previous year.
