Investigators said Friday that they are unable to explain how a young mother failed to see the flashing lights of an approaching police car before she pushed a stroller carrying her 1-year-old son into its path last week in Junction City.
The child, Micheal Meyers, is back with his family after being treated for a concussion, cracked ribs and other injuries. His mother, Ashley Meyers, 17, of Springfield, was not injured.
State Police Recruit Trooper Clay Core was properly driving his patrol car north at 54 mph in a 30 mph zone when the collision occurred, Chief Deputy Lane County District Attorney Alex Gardner said Friday.
Core, 24, braked and swerved, but the collision could not be avoided, Gardner said.
