Sep. 16--New schools mean new boundaries, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools this week will launch a series of public meetings about proposed new attendance zones -- and one proposed change that has aroused interest in southeast Charlotte.

CMS plans to open three elementary schools next year, including a school -- unofficially called "new Belmeade Road school" -- in the Mountain Island area.

Two more elementary schools and two new middle schools are scheduled to open for the 2009-10 academic year. The 2009 new schools include an elementary school on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in western Mecklenburg County and a Belmeade…
