If you're planning a trip to Europe or are looking for a reason to go there, taking delivery of a new car at the factory can make sense.
First, your transportation needs on the Continent will be handled. Cross off a rental-car bill, as all you'll pay for is fuel. Fuel costs more in Europe than it does here, but you'll be in your new car!
Second, automakers give a price break on European delivery. Audi takes 5 percent off its sticker. Plus, the company picks up one night's lodging at a four- or five-star hotel near the Ingolstadt delivery center. And it takes care of registration and insurance for up to five weeks of European travel. Other manufacturers have similar programs and discounts.
Audi works hard to make you feel like a VIP. After arriving in Munich's airport, you are met by a driver who loads your bags into an Audi A8L W12 and whisks you to either your hotel or the delivery center. At the Audi Forum delivery center, you get a VIP wristband. This pass allows you (and those with you) access to the excellent restaurant adjacent to the center, as well as to the Museum Mobile, which documents Audi's history. The museum-one of the best in the world-is worth a few hours' tour.
