Sep. 13--The Hickory school board expects to decide by Nov. 19 whether to begin a standardized dress code at Hickory High School next year.

Board Chairman Sarah Talbert said she envisions allowing students to choose from about two different colors of bottoms and several colors of tops. The specifics of a plan will likely come later and could be shaped by a committee, Talbert said at a community meeting this week.

For now, chances that the board will approve a new dress code look good: School board members unanimously supported the idea Monday, saying that it would improve safety, cut down on bullying and help teachers avoid…
