Sep. 13--A fourth-grader had a gun in his waistband and two bullets in his hand Wednesday during class at a northeast Charlotte elementary school, police said.
Another student at Briarwood Elementary saw the 9-year-old boy playing with the bullets and told a teacher assistant, said Kathleen Bell, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokeswoman.
The teacher was walking the student to the office, Bell said, when she noticed a bulge under his shirt and found a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband.
"We are so proud of this student who did the right thing," said Cynthia Robbins, another district spokeswoman.…
