Sep. 13--Three Northwest Side school districts failed to meet federal standards largely because some schools did not have enough test scores.
Schools in the Amphitheater, Flowing Wells and Marana districts mostly failed to make Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, because scores were thrown out after special-education students were allowed to use accommodations, such as calculators, on annual assessment tests.
Once the scores were thrown out, schools didn't have the required number of test scores for students in particular subgroups. Ninety-five percent of students must be tested or a school automatically fails.
