Who could have imagined a month ago how the pet food recall could implode like this? This started in mid-March, when Menu Foods, a contract manufacturer of wet pet foods, announced it was recalling dozens of products containing wheat gluten, which was traced to a new source in China. A fortnight later, investigators identified a contaminant, melamine, a chemical used in plastics.
