Sep. 11----Update on Everett's treatment
When Al Celaya was told he had a phone call regarding Kevin Everett on Monday morning, the Beaumont West Brook secondary coach thought it was good news regarding his former star player.
Instead, he learned Everett was fighting for his life.
Those who know the Buffalo Bills tight end were stunned by news of Everett's suffering what doctors Monday called a "catastrophic" fracture of his spinal cord during Sunday's 15-14 loss to the Denver Broncos.
"I'm just really shocked," said Celaya, who coached Everett at Port Arthur Jefferson (now Port Arthur Memorial) from 1997-2000. "I'm still in disbelief.
"All I can do is pray and hope for the best for him and his family."
