GRITZINGER: For last year's Woodward Dream Cruise, Ford set us up with a Ford GT, a head turner in every sense of the phrase. While that car's blue-and- orange Gulf-style paint job alone cost more than all the extras combined on this Shelby GT, the latter remains a fan favorite, and my favorite Mustang as well. It was a joy to spend the 2007 Woodward weekend in it-though it's hard to appreciate the car's track abilities on public roads during the highly patrolled Dream Cruise weekend.
What's great about this super Shelby 'Stang? It may not be as insanely powerful as the super-high-output GT500 with the supercharged Ford GT engine, but this is no tame little pony by comparison. The V8 is strong, with a great exhaust roar, and it feels plenty powerful for the street. The shifter is beyond perfect-I can't imagine how many good V8s, rear ends, clutches and gearboxes would have lived longer lives if this kind of ...
