Is your hair at its breaking point (literally) with all the damage from color changes? Rather than swear off dye (it's too fun!), follow some pro advice.

1 Before any major color change, start deep conditioning weekly. (That's what protected Sandra Bullock's hair when her colorist spent 10 hours dying it the perfect brown.) And be diligent about using a creamy leave-in conditioner after every shampoo.

2 Next time you color your strands at home, replace half the activator with a liquid ...
