Byline: Jeff Davis
Aug. 28--It was 2004 and Leonard Davis made a decision that sent him in one direction and his brothers, Rodney and Marque, in another.
The brothers were household names in Dos Palos, where their football exploits put the Broncos on the state map.
Davis, a two-sport athlete, chose to continue his athletic career in baseball, while his brothers stuck with football. Rodney and Marque went to Fresno State, both had good careers, but never made it professionally.
Leonard starred at Fresno City as an outfielder. He became an eighth-round draft choice of the Washington Nationals in 2004 and finds himself in high Class A after a move up this season.
Davis made the Southern League all-star team for the Hagerstown Suns before his promotion to the Potomac Nationals. He hit .290 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs for the Suns. He's batting around .280 for Potomac, the first winning team he's played for as a pro.
In a position switch, Davis has settled in as a third baseman in the minors. You might have seen him on television recently. He sacrificed his body making a diving catch over a fence and into the stands that made the highlights on several cable and local programs.
