Aug. 28--Virginia has the 23rd highest rate of adult obesity and the 25th highest rate of overweight youth ages 10 to 17, according to a report urging the federal government to do more.
Trust For America's Health, a Washington-based, nonprofit research and advocacy organization, yesterday released its fourth "F as in Fat" report that ranks states on obesity.
The numbers show 24.5 percent of Virginia adults are obese and 13.8 percent of Virginia youth ages 10 to 17 are overweight. The adult figure is based on federal data and is a three-year average of adult obesity rates from 2004 to 2006.
