Senate Republicans should relish the confirmation fight over Leslie H. Southwick's nomination to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Last year the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved the former Mississippi appellate judge for a district-court nomination (he would later take a leave from this post to serve as JAG officer in Iraq), and even the American Bar Association's evaluation committee unanimously gave him its highest rating ("well-qualified").
