Epson America Inc. is preparing to plumb new color depths at the low end of its flatbed scanner line.
The ES-1000C, slated to ship in May for a street price of about $799, will replace the company's $899 ES-800C. Based on a new CCD (charge-coupled device) engine, the 1000C will offer an optical resolution of 400 by 800 dpi and 30 bits of RGB information per pixel; the 800C supports 400 by 400 dpi and 24 bits per pixel.
The new scanner will allow Mac users to scan images at up to 3,200 dpi via software interpolation, Epson said. It will work in either one- or three-pass mode, and ...
