Epson America Inc. is preparing to plumb new color depths at the low end of its flatbed scanner line.
The ES-1000C, slated to ship in May for a street price of about $799, will replace the company's $899 ES-800C. Based on a new CCD (charge-coupled device) engine, the 1000C will offer an optical resolution of 400 by 800 dpi and 30 bits of RGB information per pixel; the 800C supports 400 by 400 dpi and 24 bits per pixel.
