Aug. 19--Byron Campbell said he can't count the times he heard teachers say, "If I only had one more hour ..."
This year, the staff at Billingsville Elementary School will be able to fulfill that wish.
Billingsville Elementary is the site of a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools experiment this year to see what happens if students attend classes one hour longer than usual each day.
"The goal is to raise student achievement," said Campbell, Billingsville's principal and the architect of much of the extra-hour plan. "The Central Office decided it was worth looking at, and we're giving it a try."
