Network storage management newcomer Avail Systems Corp. and longtime enterprise storage player IBM last week announced an agreement that could provide IS managers with hierarchical storage management (HSM) capabilities across an enterprise.
The agreement calls for the two companies to link their products, giving IBM's Adstar Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) customers access to server storage information managed by Avail's NetSpace for NetWare.
The link will permit data maintained in the file directories of PC networks to be migrated, stored, managed, and backed up by minicomputers and mainframe computers running ADSM.
