Aug. 16--Students throughout Placer County may find things a bit nicer in their physical education, arts and music classes this year.
New instruments and sheet music may await them in band class. New tumbling mats in the gym. Heart monitors in PE class. Risers for their choir performances.
The new additions are thanks to Placer County school districts being allocated a $5.1 million slice of a statewide grant for arts, music and physical education programs.
Schools across California collectively received $500 million in grants for arts, music and physical education programs this year.
The funding -- which must be used for professional development, equipment and supplies -- was approved in the 2006-07 state budget.
