Rick Nguyen, former publisher of the Pacific-Asian newsletter in Houston, is breaking into the hotly competitive fashion magazine business.
Nguyen, who founded Modern Asian-Pacific News in Austin, says his new magazine, Niko, will focus on the lifestyles and interests of Asian-American women and is scheduled to grace the newsstands March 1.
"There are very few magazines who cater to them (Asian-American women)," he says. "We want to target upper-class readers who earn $25,000 a year and up."
Niko Editor Lillian Wang, who is a former senior editor at Elle magazine, says "Our reader is smart, chic and leads a fast-paced life."
