During a recent candidate forum, Clinton and Obama both said that if there were a draft, which they oppose, young men and women alike should be conscripted to serve in the military. Although the candidates attempted to shift the subject to the importance of "national service," young men don't register with the Selective Service System in order to teach in inner-city schools. Should our national defense require a draft, registered young men would be called upon to serve involuntarily in the military's combat ranks.
