Opening of the Canadian West for settlement and development was started by hardy pioneers who saw a chance for adventure and a new life in a remote and largely unknown wilderness far from the comforts and safety of their homes. My grandfather, Edward Barnett, was one such pioneer who migrated west in 1877 as a young man of nineteen years; he spent the next six decades in south-central Alberta as an adventurer, policeman, rancher, farmer and pioneer who helped to open the El Dorado we know today as Alberta.
