Aug. 12--Among the muster of prospective cadets near the Citadel's sprawling parade ground, John Weddington recognized a familiar face.

Clay Templeton, whom he hadn't seen since their days at Crestdale Middle School, stood just yards away.

The campus visit earlier this year seemed an unlikely place for the recent high school graduates to reunite.

Even more unlikely, though, was that both were selected to apply for Citadel Scholar scholarships -- worth about $120,000. The scholarships cover tuition, books, board and uniforms for four years of study.
