Hixson 'Geezer' promotes fitness.

Aug. 11--The dozens of medals displayed on John Disterdick's bike in his garage include a third-place in the 1982 Ironman World Championship triathlon and a silver in the 2007 Senior Olympics.

And the newest medal for the 65-year-old Hixson resident? A 30-something pound belt he received a week ago when he won the World Masters Light Heavyweight Champion boxing title in Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Disterdick said he has participated in competitions around the county for the past 50 years -- from speed skiing, running, swimming, boxing, rowing and other sports.

He is in the running to be named athlete of the year by Geezer …
