OS/2 PowerPC delivery is delayed once again

IBM will be forced to use the dreaded "D" word yet again as company insiders last week confirmed that the final delivery date of OS/2 for the PowerPC has been pushed back to the end of September.

The delay, the third in the past 12 to 15 months, will not affect delivery of the company's PowerPC-based desktop systems, which are still expected to be announced at the end of May, sources said.

While sources close to the company gave a range of reasons for the delay, most seem to center around bringing up the overall quality of the product, particularly its capability to run DOS and Windows applications with acceptable …
