U.S. Xpress Enterprises, the fourth largest publicly owned truckload carrier in the United States, improved on its first quarter loss with a net income of $2.7 million in the second quarter.
Down 53 percent from a year earlier, this quarter's profit came amid a still soft truckload freight market. Revenue for the second quarter increased 2.8 percent to $400.3 million compared with $389.5 million in the second quarter of 2006.
