Lockport Savings Bank is edging close to doing something it has never done in its 125-year history - moving to the suburbs.
Lockport's hometown bank, the only surviving Niagara County-based bank, is scouting for a headquarters location because it has gotten too big for its present space. Since 1968, administrative offices have occupied a two-story building at 55 East Ave. in downtown Lockport, where the bank has been based since its founding in 1870.
No new site has been chosen, said William Swan, president and CEO. But several, including at least one unidentified Town of Lockport location south of the city, have been examined. Pendleton is also a possibility.
"There are no offers and no 'hot sites,'" Swan said.
