Richmond seeks safety czar: City on extensive search to find director for office charged with coordinating anti-violence efforts.

Jul. 26--Richmond is aggressively recruiting a director for its new Office of Neighborhood Safety, which is charged with reducing chronic violence by focusing local and regional prevention programs.

To assemble the broadest possible range of candidates, the Human Resources Department has mailed more than 200 brochures and postcards to universities, colleges, businesses, minority organizations and nonprofit groups. They also have posted the position on at least five career Web sites.
