Jul. 26--Will plain pants and polo shirts become the latest -- and only -- fashion at Hickory High School?

It's possible: At its meeting this week, the Hickory Board of Education began considering requiring Hickory High students to wear uniforms. Those anticipating a large public turnout, however, were disappointed.

"I didn't expect angry parents," board Chairman Sarah Talbert said, surveying the nearly empty council chambers. "But I expected interested parents."

School leaders say they're hoping more of them will start to turn up in the coming weeks as they continue to discuss a potential uniform policy.
