Jul. 26--The Democratic majority of county commissioners said Wednesday they will support the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board's bond request.
And while one Republican warned of a vote-no campaign, like the one that helped sink the 2005 school bond, two other GOP members seemed torn.
The Republicans succeeded in lowering the bond package to $516 million -- $101 million less than CMS had sought. Forced to trim costs, the school board's cuts included two elementary schools in the crowded suburbs.
