The workers' compensation system is at work for Carolyn Wolf.

She manages the Pier 1 store at 3820 W. Northwest Highway in Dallas, where there have been no workers' comp claims for three years under laws passed in 1989.

The company encourages awareness about safety. Lunch bags and cup holders are covered with the phrase, "Safety Pays."

"I know my limits for lifting, but we still wear back braces, and when I have too much, I get someone to help me," Wolf said. "I think it's very important for every company to have workers' comp. If we didn't have it, we'd probably have lawsuits."
