Jul. 19--As a lifelong Charlottean and former principal of one of CMS's biggest elementary schools, Steve Drye has had a front-row view of how growth has dominated the city's suburbs.
And in the Ballantyne area, school space is so tight that Hawk Ridge Elementary sent its fifth-grade class to another school to have enough room for everyone.
Still, Drye doesn't fear how big his Elon Park Elementary School can become.
"I've been at Steele Creek (Elementary) with 1,180," said Drye. "Going to a school with 850 is downsizing."
