Jul. 15--One of north Charlotte's education institutions has a date with the wrecking ball this month.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board approved a demolition contract last week for the old Druid Hills Elementary School building off Lucena Street.
"The preliminary asbestos removal work is done, so the demolition could take place any day now," CMS Associate Superintendent Guy Chamberlain said last week.
The old school, which covered 38,000 square feet, sits behind a new 93,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2001.
