Jul. 13--LA JUNTA -- Mosquitoes in Otero, Crowley and Prowers counties have tested positive for West Nile virus for the first time this year, a sign that human infections could be next.
Health officials confirmed Thursday that mosquitoes collected in test pools in and around Lamar tested positive for West Nile virus, a pathogen that is typically transmitted via mosquito bite. Officials in Otero and Crowley counties did not say where their positive test pools were located.
