Oregon State's Spencer takes job at Texas Tech.

Jul. 3--Texas Tech baseball coach Larry Hays has had his eye on Dan Spencer for more than a year. Monday, he finally got his man when the Fort Vancouver graduate agreed to become the Red Raiders associate head coach.

The 41-year-old Spencer, an assistant coach since 1997 for two-time defending national champion Oregon State, has been in charge of pitching. The Beavers led the Pacific-10 Conference in earned run average the past three seasons.

"I don't think I'm exaggerating if I said that Dan Spencer is the hottest pitching coach in America," Hays said.
