Jul. 1--The minimum parking fine in the City of Long Beach more than doubled today in an effort to discourage illegal parking, particularly by out-of-towners who treated the old fine as the cost of a day at the beach.
The minimum was increased to $60 from $25, city officials said, because that was not enough to discourage visiting drivers from exceeding the posted time limits, parking in front of hydrants and even blocking the driveways of homeowners.
