Jun. 30--More than 200 acres adjacent to Historic Bok Sanctuary in Polk County were bought for preservation Friday through a state land-acquisition grant program.
The Florida Communities Trust awarded the local Green Horizon Land Trust, a nonprofit group that helps preserve valuable and sensitive lands around the Central Florida Ridge, nearly $2 million to purchase two parcels totaling 220 acres on the south side of the sanctuary.
Bok spokeswoman Cindy Turner praised the acquisition and said it will help preserve the serenity of the national historic landmark, known for its gardens and 205-foot, 60-bell carillon tower.
