India gets go-ahead
Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone said he is satisfied with the projected New Delhi street circuit and encouraged Vijay Mallya, owner of the Kingfisher airline that sponsors Toyota in F1, and Vicky Chandhok, the former president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, to seek a title sponsor for an inaugural Indian Grand Prix. Regional media reported that Ecclestone said he expects to announce within four months the year in which India will host the event.
Promoter sues Champ Car
The promoter of the Champ Car race planned for the Zhuhai circuit in China in October but postponed, if not canceled (Competition, June 11), is suing the series. The race was scheduled originally for May, but Champ Car sought an Oct. 28 date because of a change of race promoter. The FIA rejected the date change, and the new race promoter, Sino Sports & Entertainment, filed a lawsuit claiming $15 million in damages.
Kristensen cleared
Seven-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen will drive in this year's race after answering doubts about his fitness (Competition, June 4). Kristensen is ready to race his Audi R10 alongside Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello after a successful tryout at the wheel of a DTM touring car. The test came more than two months after the accident in the DTM series opener at Hockenheim that left him suffering from dizzy spells.
Kristensen's recovery means that Mattias Ekstrom, who had been on standby to fill the gap in the Audi lineup, will not make his Le Mans debut.
