Jun. 19--BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is among seven health insurance providers that have agreed to stop marketing private Medicare health plans.
The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced the voluntary suspensions Monday, citing complaints about "deceptive marketing practices" by the companies selling private fee-for-service Medicare Advantage plans.
Medicare is the federal health insurance program for the elderly and disabled.
The companies agreed not to market the plans until they could assure the government that they had proper controls over how sales representatives and insurance agents describe the plans to potential customers, according to the centers.
