Jun. 19--The statewide push to take a bite out of the methamphetamine trade appears to be working, with fewer people entering addiction treatment or seeking emergency hospitalization in 2006.
The marked decline in admissions is the first evidence of major progress against the meth scourge in the seven years since the drug emerged as a statewide concern, according to a new report from Hazelden, a Minnesota-based rehab provider.
However, while meth abuse seems to be dropping, the meth market is still hot and demand for cocaine, marijuana and heroin remains constant -- and may be growing.
