The purpose of this article is to provide the practitioner with ammunition to support the use of provocation testing for toxic element burden, and to increase awareness and stimulate thought about current "hot topics" regarding the testing process and interpretation of the test results. Discussion will be limited to the thoroughly researched pharmaceutical compounds, Ca-EDTA, DMSA, and DMPS. It is emphasized that the material is presented from the laboratory perspective by a biochemist/preclinical research pharmacologist, not by a practicing clinician.
