Jun. 15--JAMES CITY -- Sharon McGeein slipped between boxes, crates and stacks of posters. The walls in her classroom at the Center for Educational Opportunities were nearly bare.

"This has been home," McGeein said, packing the items she used in her history lessons for the past five years at the center, the district's only alternative education setting. "We've had some students who said they feel just about the same way."
