Gearing up for better things
Google has launched a tool to make it simpler to use online applications such as email and calendars without an internet connection.
Google Gears allows access to online data and applications inside the web browser when offline. It is an open source plug-in and when a user visits a website that supports the technology, they are prompted to click on a small icon. This starts to download online data that is usually held on web servers. The data is stored offline on an individual's computer and then synchronised when the user logs back on to the web.
