Claims Direct, the personal-injury compensation service, is planning a multimillion-pound relaunch, capitalising on changes in the legal sector that will allow outside investment in law firms - previously all promotional activity had to be funded by the firms' partners.

The company, which has faced accusations of 'ambulance-chasing' in the past, has appointed Air to handle its advertising. The Manchester agency won the business in a pitch against Quiet Storm.

Claims Direct's was bought in 2003 by law firm Russell Jones & Walker after its previous owner went into administration in 2002. At one point it was spending pounds 2m a month on advertising.
