A Jamestown manufacturer of ultrasonic cleaning systems hopes to shake up the hazardous waste industry with a new system for breaking down certain pollutants.

In hopes of developing new ways to dispose of hazardous waste, SonicStar International Inc. has joined with the University at Buffalo to test a system that vibrates certain chemicals.

"Right now, the indications are that it does work. Now we have to scale it up to the point that we can operate it in a batch or a continuous flow process," said Eugene DeCastro, an electrical engineer at SonicStar.
