Siemens Duewag Corp., has signed a lease with Watson Land Company, to locate the nation's first light rail vehicle car shell manufacturing facility in the City of Carson.

Siemens Duewag Corp., the largest provider of light rail vehicles, last year received a $200 million contract from the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to build 72 standard and two prototype light rail cars for use on Metro Green and Metro Blue Lines.

In commenting on the decision to locate the Siemens Duewag plant on the Watson property, Richard M. Cannon, Watson's CEO said: "We're pleased to have been chosen to provide the facility for an entirely new Southern California industry. …
